It is essential to drink a sufficient amount of fluids to prevent the increased loss of fluids and minerals due to perspiration in hot weather. The consumption of fluids, especially water, plays a vital role at every age in cleansing the body of harmful toxins, regulating body functions, balancing the metabolism, and carrying out biochemical reactions. Therefore, make sure to drink at least two to 2.5 liters (around 12 to 14 cups) of water each day, and include in your diet drinks such as milk, ayran, kefir and fruit juice, to meet your body’s need for fluids. Symptoms of dehydration include weakness, fatigue, dry mouth and poor concentration. As you get older, your body needs more fluids. For this reason, increasing fluid intake as you get older is one of the keys to a healthy life. Ensure that children drink enough liquids in hot weather to compensate the fluids lost through breathing to regulate the heat.
